Mindustries - The Industries Of The Mind

Mindustries - The Industries Of The Mind
Mindustries (or as they call the project themselves most of the time), Industries OF The Mind, are 2 of those producers who seem to move outside the regular paths in the industrial scene. They are well known visitors of the illegal parties and tekno parties as well.We wanted to know what Mindustries is all about.

Most people will know who you guys are, but for those who don’t, please introduce yourself.
Yuri van Vlijmen , 25 Years, born and raised in The Hague City. Nils van Lingen, 24 Years, also born and raised in The City. We’ll do the woodpecker later!

You guys made quite an entry with your debut album called Deus ex Machina on Enzyme Records. How did you experience that?
It was quite a ride on the biggest wave, a surfer could only dream of. Especially the reactions to this album were astonishing to observe and we tried to look upon this phenomenon rationally but that is not possible. The feeling to become part of this music business was a dream from the day we were born. Now it is a fact and we enjoy every moment of it.

A new record has come up. Can you tell us something more about that?
With this record we are trying to prove that Mindustries can be a solid value in the hardcore/industrial scene. For us this is an important matter because that is an achievement we will put all our efforts in. We are very pleased with the result and we hope the people join us in that thought. We are also very happy with the remix of one of our favorite producers. It was really turning the world upside down to hear he wanted to do a remix for us, now it’s a fact and we can’t be more proud.

In what way do you think this record is different from the first one? Did you learn something from your first release?
Well one of the first comments on Enzyme 19 included that one could hear the various styles we put up on our album coming together in this release. We think the tracks are more complete than those on our album, on the whole less various than enzyme 14 but more detailed and of better sound quality. This means that we are progressing in the way we want to and we hope to do so in dimensionless quantity during the rest of our lives.

Your new release contains a remix by The DJ Producer. How did this happen and how do you feel about this?
First of all, we are a big fan of Luke (The DJ Producer). We think he’s one of the most talented producers in the scene and he proves it release after release. Nils came in contact with Luke trough the Outside Agency who knew him for a while already and so we came up to the idea of doing remixes for one another. Luke wanted to remix Deus ex Machina and it was finished as fast as we could realize so therefore it is now a fact on Enzyme 19. Of course we are doing a remix for him in favor, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Your style is pretty unique, how did you create this style?
Well that’s pretty hard to formulate because we’ve never created anything that could be referred to this style or any style whatsoever. I think the possibilities that fruityloops brings us and the interest in various music styles during our whole life has made the Mindustries style to what it is now.

Which Mindustries track you like most at this moment? And why?
There are a few tracks of our own we always spin in a Mindustries set. Deus ex Machina and Throes of Rejection are one of those standards the people can expect from us in a gig. The track we did with Outside Agency, Schermutselingen, has also become one of our favorites. But we always try to vary our sets, gig after gig so we try to spin most of our tracks on a spread out basis.

Mindustries is a duo, we know that. How do you make your tracks. Do you always work on the same track at the same time? Or do you work separately?
Most of the time we work separately but when we finalize a track, we always do it together. We fill up each other as much as we can and we try to obtain our qualities from one another. The time, the quantity of the work and the way of coming to a satisfactional point always varies.
